Our 3rd episode of 'How I Got This Job' is on fire! This time, Jovanay sits down with her dad, Battalion Chief Jovan Carter, who is a battalion chief at DeKalb County Fire Rescue in Tucker, Georgia. You can watch it by clicking above or on YouTube HERE.

What can a tech CEO learn from a fire chief? A whole lot, and every profession out there can walk away with some major insight after this episode. Chief Carter has been a public servant for decades, and in that time, he has witnessed a great deal and overcome numerous challenges.

In just the past couple of years, he has encountered a hoarder fire full of exploding ammo and a massive tow yard blaze that engulfed 75 vehicles. In 2018, he was honored for his heroic actions in rescuing families from an apartment fire, carefully saving an infant from the burning third floor. But overall, Chief Carter doesn't seek recognition or attention. What has always been most important to him has been doing his job, doing it well, and passing his knowledge on to the next generation of firefighting leadership. Now, you can get some of that knowledge for yourself!

Evidently, there are few jobs more high-stakes than firefighting, so how does one manage the weight of that responsibility? How are candidates selected for firefighting positions? What does it take to make it to the top leadership position of the department? And how does all of this tie into other professional fields? Learn all of this and more from Chief Carter in episode 3, where we discuss hiring processes, interviewing tips, the importance of soft skills in even the hardest jobs, and what green flags to look for in job candidates.
